Day 8 – 221lbs

Foods Eaten:
2 granola bars
1 packet of oatmeal
2 large navel oranges
2 slices of white bread with vegetables stuffed in
1 large nectarine
1/2 handful of almonds
2 servings of pasta

Exercise:
1.5 hour of squash (7 games – not wholeheartedly though due to dinner)

Thoughts:
Dinner was obviously too much. I prepared it myself, but  I overshot the serving size because it didn’t look big enough in the cooking pot. For next time, I’ll remember to use a glass rather than a cup :D The large portion, and the fact that it was made one hour before my workout, definitely decreased my quick response time during squash – I was pretty much laggard the whole game; picking up in the final two (of seven) games. I guess the ‘itis much have been wearing off by that point. My mom made achaar chicken with rice today. It is one of my favorites of her cooking, but the only problem is that the amount of oil involved in home cooking is outrageous. Once I opened the pot, on one side was the chicken and on the other was a mix of oil/water/masala. It wasn’t a pretty picture; even on the chicken I could see a thick layer of oil. I’ve made it sound unappetizing, but if you were to see/taste it yourself, you probably wouldn’t be able to resist it. Either way, I stayed away from it, yet I overate with the pasta. The plan for tomorrow is to eat something light for dinner. Perhaps stir-fried vegetables.

Day 7 – 217lbs

Foods Eaten:
1 granola bar
2 small packets of oatmeal mix
1 handful of almonds
2 slices of white bread (ugh) filled with vegetables
1 roasted chicken breast including the leg
2 small and 1 large nectarine
1 large navel orange
1 serving of pringles chips (the cannister is finished now)

Exercise:
1.5 hours of playing squash (essentially five games)

Thoughts:
Today I feel that I ate more than I should have and considering the dinner was later than normal, I wasn’t full energized for the squash game. I realized that two packets of oatmeal is too much for one day as well. I need to cut back on the number of sugary fruits I eat. So the plan is to bring it down to 1 nectarine and 1 navel orange at the most. Today was a stressful day at work so the water intake dropped drastically, hopefully it doesn’t continue again tomorrow. Lets try to cut back on the intake tomorrow.

Day 6 – 217lbs

Foods Eaten:
1 large bowl of boiled black peas with vegetables mixed in (no oil)
1 Tim Hortons sesame bagel with butter
1 Small (in the US, so technically medium) Ice Cap
2 servings of regular Pringles chips
1 banana
2 nectarines
1 handful of cherries
4 servings of vegetable hot and sour soup (out of a packet, only 400 calories)

Exercise:
40 minutes on the treadmill (mix of running and jogging)
15 minutes on the elliptical
15 minutes of lifting weights

Thoughts:
Sunday is usually a terrible day for eating because I’m out with my parents, usually on a shopping trip to Buffalo. As you know, road trips are terrible for healthy eating. So all the junk that I ate today (bagel and chips) was because we were out and about. Hopefully this week should pick up. I look forward to the weekdays because my consumption is generally more strict. Lets see how this week starts off. Oh yeah, and I’m not exactly thrilled that I’ve dropped some weight. This is where I was at in January. The goal is to keep on bringing it down.

Day 5 – 217lbs

Foods Eaten:
2 slices of whole wheat bread with vegetables
2 nectarines
1 plate chicken tikka (restaurant-made)
1 bowl of mom’s lentils
1 whole wheat pita

Exercise:
35 minutes on treadmill
20 minutes on elliptical
5 minutes lifting weight

Thoughts:
Ate food outside today for lunch. Met with one of close friend’s new girlfriend. She seems like a really nice girl; very open and… let’s say “normal” compared to my friends and I. The food was good, remarkably (it’s hard to screw up chicken tikka). I made the choice based on the least amount of oil that would/could have been used. So I’d like to think I’m on the right path, hopefully :)

Day 4 – 222lbs

Food eaten:
2 slices of whole wheat bread filled with vegetables
2 granola bars
Handful of almonds
1 roasted chicken breast with leg
2 nectarines
2 large oranges

Exercise:
35 minutes on the treadmill (20 running and 15 jogging)
20 minutes on the elliptical
20 minutes lifting weight

Thoughts:

Not another bad day. Had to delay eating lunch by about 4 hours because of attending prayers. Filled up with a granola bar and some almonds to keep me going.

Day 3 – 222lbs

Food Eaten:
2 granola bars
Handful of almonds
Two slices of bread filled with vegetables
1 large bowl of mom’s lentils
1 whole wheat pita
2 large nectarines

Exercise:
1 hour of squash (5 full games)
1 hour of basketball (upto 23)

Thoughts:
Told you it was the water that brought the weight down yesterday. But today I consumed a tank full of water, especially at the gym, drinking approximately 2.25 litres of water. Mom actually asked me for the first time what she should make that I would actually eat (she’s been making some pretty oily stuff recently). So I opted for the lentils, and advised her to make some roasted chicken as well; so that’s on the agenda for tomorrow. My palms of my feet are currently killing me after burning it up on the basketball floor (you thought I’d break into a song, didn’t you?)

Day 2 – 219lbs

Foods Eaten:
2 granola bars
Handful of almonds
Two slices of bread with vegetables stuffed inside
1 bowl of mom’s lentils
1 pita bread
Lots of water

Exercise:
35 minutes on the treadmill (20 running and 10 jogging)
15 minutes on the elliptical
45 minutes of assorted weightlifting

Thoughts:
Today was my first day of eating properly along with exercising. Drinking loads of water was the main culprit for the day over day weight reduction. I don’t expect this trend to continue, but it’s always nice to see a reduction. I need to figure out what to make for dinner tomorrow, just in case the mom-option isn’t healthy. Lentils were a good choice, tasted pretty good to.

Day 1 – 222lbs

Food Eaten:
1 Mars bar
6 Lindt chocolate balls
1 Indian-Chinese lunch plate of Manchurian chicken
1 small bowl of white rice
1 bowl of chicken corn soup
1 small spring roll

Exercise:
2 hours of squash (probably only 1 hour of actual playing and 1 hour of talking)

Thoughts:
I had to finish the chocolate that I bought yesterday to eat during my exam today. I had a gift card for PharmaPlus so I thought I’d buy some snack to eat during the exam, but everything is ridiculously overpriced and the chocolate was the only thing on sale. The Indian-Chinese was my reward for finishing the exam. I started going to the gym again, hopefully I’ll continue and remain focused. I’m planning on printing off some recipes online and having them for dinner.

Welcome!

It’s been nearly three years since I last maintained a blog, and I feel there’s no time than the present to restart this old hobby of mine. My original fascination stemmed from the fact that I needed a venue to express my thoughts – I simply couldn’t keep them vaulted for my whole life. The site became somewhat popular (nothing like MillionDollarJourney.com), but it was followed by many of my close friends, and even some folks in the States and back in India. I advertised the shit out of it as well – for what purpose? None that I can recollect.

The reason I’m restarting now, after such a long hiatus, is because… well, other than a conceited reason, why else would anyone do something like this? There are a couple reasons that come to mind, and I know at some point I’ll want to spin off the sections into their own sites, but what the hell? You have to start somewhere. First, I’m trying to get back in shape, so I plan on posting my progress online – at least this way I’ll feel that I’m reporting to someone; perhaps it’ll give me the extra boost that I need. Also, I’m a huge movie buff, and I know there are enough reviewers out there in the ether, but I’ve watched enough movies where the reviews just weren’t accurate (i.e. The Cohen Brothers). I hope to put my two cents out there, so if someone has similar tastes, they’ll know what to watch and what to stay away from. Finally, I love to travel, so I’ll throw in my opinions/reviews on where to go and what to do. Oh yeah, and then obviously there’ll be mindless ramblings of some guy.
